We’ve always believed that RealClassic is Britain’s best-value classic bike magazine, and as part of that ethos we’re delighted to give our subscribers a little extra something. So we’re delighted to announce the six winsome winners of our most recent giveaway – that’s six RealClassic readers who’ll be treating a friend to free entry at the Winter Classic show and jumble at Newark Showground on Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th January 2025.
Most folk are familiar with the year-round Normous Newark jumbles at the same venue, but the Winter Classic is a little different. In deference to the generally inclement weather, the majority of the show takes places indoors in one of half a dozen heated halls. A select band of hardy traders typically set up outside as well, but you’ll find a more extensive range of specialist suppliers offering used and secondhand spares, new-old-stock and modern repro components, accessories and memorabilia – and plenty of workshop consumables, too. This is usually a great place to pick up a pair of cut-price tyres and stock up on oil and lubricants, saving a whole heap on delivery charges in the process.
You’ll also need to set aside a couple of hours to browse the bike displays. The Winter Classic always offers something different, with a special hall dedicated to scooters from all eras – normally much more variety than the usual Vespa and Lambretta offerings.
For folks who prefer their two-wheelers of the more traditional British classic type, the club stands and private entries range from BSA Bantams to Gold Stars, muddy off-roaders, classic racers, local clubs and single-model enthusiast groups like the Sunbeam Owners’ Fellowship. This show also offers an interesting array of awards – like Technical Interest, Best Paintwork and Unrestored – which in turn tends to attract special engineering projects alongside barn-fresh bikes which have barely been touched in several lifetimes.
Then there’s usually a good showing of international classics – always plenty of Italian machines, BMWs and older Japanese bikes. Last year the show also featured a panel of special guests, live bike start-up sessions and Q&A opportunities on both days so there may well be extra entertainment laid on. Plus the usual range of refreshments serving hot food and drinks, and free car parking.
On the day admission to enjoy all of this normally costs adults £16 – but (as we might’ve mentioned at the top of the page) half a dozen RC readers won a pair of tickets each in our most recent subscriber giveaway. So we hope that D Hawxby, JohnK, IanM, AnthonyR, DerekR and PhilN all have a brilliant day out on January 11th or 12th. Take some snaps of the show, folks, and let us know what you think of it!
If you weren’t lucky enough to be one of our winners, there’s still time to get your tickets online.
And if you’d like to subscribe to the monthly magazine, join the entirely informal RC Club, and enter similar giveaways in future, here’s how to take out a subscription!
